PEAKCONF Insider Issue 006

Peak Conference

Welcome back to PEAKCONF Insider, where this week the name went up before the stadium broke ground.

πŸ“‹ The TL;DR:

  • The Big Story: €650M for the name on a stadium five years from opening. Operators, caterers and partners for 2030 venues are being chosen now

  • The PEAK Index: 36 (Foothills), October’s official reading, up from 33 on a better M&A balance

  • Buyer Signals: What sports organizations bought, plus three deadlines this month

  • The Money: Kalshi at $40B, Valencia agrees a sale at $1.4B, and Dolan splits the Knicks from the Rangers

πŸ“˜ THE BIG STORY

Sold Before It’s Built

The new San Siro may not open until 2031, but its naming rights are already taken.

On October 29, AC Milan and Inter unveiled Generali Stadium, a 71,500-seat replacement for San Siro designed by Foster + Partners and MANICA. Construction starts in 2028. The first match is scheduled for the 2031-32 season. Generali holds the name for 20 years, and while neither club disclosed terms, the deal is reported at about €650M.

And they are not the only clubs doing business before opening day:

  • Detroit City FC picked OVG Hospitality for AlumniFi Field, opening spring 2028.

  • Vingroup handed Legends Global the operation of the 135,000-seat VinFast-Trong Dong Stadium in Hanoi, opening July 2027.

  • Munich Arena broke ground: 20,000 capacity, Populous and HENN, Live Nation as long-term partner, opening 2029.

  • Fisher Brothers proposed a $2B to $3B arena in Las Vegas for an NBA team that does not exist yet.

Even the fans are early. The Athletics sold out their exclusive 300-seat Athletic Club 17 months before the Las Vegas ballpark opens.

The pattern: naming partners, operators, caterers and premium buyers are being locked in three to five years before the doors open. The building is the last thing to arrive.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

  1. Get in before the build. Operators and hospitality partners are being chosen two to four years out. The network, display and production decisions are made in the same window. If your product belongs in a new building, the people to reach this year are the architect, the owner’s rep and the operator.

  2. Know who makes the decisions. Legends, OVG, Levy and Delaware North all picked up new buildings in October. For a point solution, a place on their standard spec can open more buildings than any single venue deal.

πŸ“Š THE PEAK INDEX

36 FOOTHILLS | OCTOBER READING

Deal data powered by SportsTechX Intelligence Hub. Buyer signals curated by PEAK and recalculated monthly.

October’s official reading is 36, up from 33 in September. Funding fell hard: $49.6M across nine disclosed rounds, the second-quietest month of 2026, while M&A ran at $170M across five deals. The index rose anyway, for two reasons. It runs on a trailing three months, and July’s $1.8B of acquisitions dropped out of the window, so the M&A balance improved even though October’s own acquisitions outweighed its rounds three to one. And buyer activity held at 28 counted decisions, close to the 2026 average. Fewer rounds, steady buying.

🀝 BUYER SIGNALS

What Sports Organizations Bought

NFL + EA Sports: Physical stadium signage for all 32 clubs’ sponsors can now appear inside Madden NFL 27.

Why it matters: A new inventory type across 32 clubs at once. Activation, measurement and rights management tools will be needed for it.

Monumental Sports + Cisco: Wi-Fi 7 at Capital One Arena, with monitoring, signage and operations on one Cisco platform.

Why it matters: Cisco has announced four NBA buildings this fall. If you sell into arenas, the network vendor is increasingly the platform you integrate with.

USTA + IBM: Official AI and Cloud Partner of the US Open renewed to 2031.

Why it matters: A 40-year incumbent just locked in five more. The AI category at major events is being filled by existing infrastructure partners first.

Philadelphia 76ers + Kalshi: The first NBA team deal with a prediction market, four days after the league framework.

Why it matters: League deal to team deal in under a week. Prediction markets are now a sponsorship category with 30 potential buyers.

Venezia FC + City of Venice: A 40-year concession to run the club’s new 18,500-seat stadium, with €125M committed by the club, ahead of a 2027-28 opening.

Why it matters: The club, not a public operator, will choose every partner in the building for the next four decades. One relationship, one very long contract.

ALSO THIS WEEK

CURE Insurance Arena installed a Daktronics LED system. CHI Health Center Omaha added a $1M court projection mapping system. Scuderia Ferrari put IBM WatsonX summaries in its fan app. Delaware North’s Royals contract starts two years early at Kauffman Stadium to build the operation before the 2030 ballpark opens.

PARTNERSHIPS TO WATCH

Also this week: SportsTechX publishes its Football Tech & Business Report next week. Visa is reportedly nearing a high eight-figure annual deal with the PGA Tour. MLB teams are rushing offseason decisions ahead of an expected December 1 lockout.

πŸ’΅ THE MONEY

Deal data powered by SportsTechX Intelligence Hub.

A quiet month for rounds, a loud one for ownership.

FIVE DEALS THAT MATTER

Kalshi closes a $1B Series G at a $40B valuation, co-led by Wellington and Sequoia. The NBA’s new preferred partner is worth three Lakers, and says it runs over 75% of prediction market volume. Not in the hub’s sportstech count, which is why October’s funding total looks so thin.

Valencia CF agrees its 42% sale to Pitchwise at a $1.4B valuation, with $111.9M of new capital. Subject to regulatory approval, two weeks after the talks surfaced. The half-built Nou Mestalla has money lined up.

MSG Sports splits into MSG Knickerbockers and MSG Rangers. Two listed single-team companies in one week, each a cleaner target for the capital that keeps arriving.

Lakers minority stakes offered from $250M apiece. The $12.5B deal is being syndicated, and FOS reports demand is strong.

DAZN gets another year from Leonard Blavatnik after a $500M injection. The streaming, betting, merchandise and ticketing bundle is still being funded by one owner.

ALSO RAISED OR BOUGHT

Edge Sound Research raised $2M led by Stormbreaker Ventures. The Press Association agreed to acquire racing data company RAS Technology for about $34.8M. TheLinkU acquired Sam Green University and AthleteCon. WISE Ventures, the Wilf family’s arm, invested in Rec Technologies. AO Ventures invested in Jump.

ONE THING WORTH WATCHING

English football’s regulator says 94% of clubs lose money on a record Β£9B of revenue, and 29% could not survive 30 days without owner funding. Investors keep coming anyway: 78 takeover and stake deals worth Β£7.2B in five years. SportsTechX’s read, which we share: for anyone selling into clubs, show how the product makes or saves money. Clever on its own will not get budget.
